Kyle Labinsky was born in New Westminster, BC in 1970. He received his BFA from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 1997.
Kyle’s current body of work presents a diverse and highly personal symbolic iconography where recognizable motifs hover and commune with amorphous forms and densely coloured grounds. His paintings contain stark symbols and images that occasionally dissolve and have shifting and layered meanings. The playful appearance of Kyle's images belie their topical and often tragic underpinnings which become increasingly apparent with subsequent viewings.
He works primarily in acrylic paint, glitter, silkscreen prints, and relief prints on wood, paper and canvas.
